LUDIC LOG

11.03.2003

October 5th: It is noted by a new artist that now that the weather is getting colder and she has less to do at work, she will have more time to practice her ASCII art. Upon seeing recent posts, "my first thought was WOW".

October 6th: "Your ASCII attempts are A-ok", notes a regular poster. Today's art: a Breast Cancer Awareness month ribbon.

October 7th: "I'm a little surprised that others don't try to make an ASCII", says Artist #1. It is said to be conducive of patience and creativity. The next ASCII art project will be a gate; "we can do a lot with gates", she says.

October 8th: The first ASCII art of a gate is said to be "very impressive!".

October 12th: Artist #2 posts ASCII art of a cemetery gate reading "HAUNTED GROUND". This is described by Artist #1 as "neat".

October 15th: Artists #1 and #2 go on a spree of Halloween-themed ASCII art, including a coffin (labeled "DRACULA") with a spider web over it, a jack o'lantern, a door and a gate with pumpkins in front of them, and what appears to be a pair of deranged hippies.

October 16th: Another busy day. The Rookie posts another gate, this one with a bat on it, which will contain "DRACULA". Artists #2 says that it is "an awesome gate", and that "no doubt, Dracula is honored by it". It is clarified that one of the deranged hippies is "the victim of the halloween axe monster" (sic). ASCII art is posted of a skeleton about to drop a cat into a cauldron, with the title "OH, MY!! Quick. Save the Kitty!" Artist #1 asks if the skeleton is making "catsup" or if the cat is really a "starved out monster mouse".

October 17th: ASCII art of a "BLOOD MOBILE" about to run a stop sign. The title of this piece is "OH NO!!!" According to the caption, "Contessa Vampira is driving this year."

October 18th: A piece titled "PUMPKINS 4 SALE" makes its debut.

October 19th: Artist #2 puts up ASCII art of a graveyard, and of a crazy man who appears to be eating a bat.

October 20th: We are treated to a witch flying in front of a full moon and a ghost who says "BOOOOOOO" from Artist #2. Artist #1 says the witch gave her "a real good chuckle", and responds with her own ASCII art of a "DISCOUNTED COSTUME" stand.

October 21st: ASCII art appears of an unidentifiable Halloween costume, presumably from the "DISCOUNTED COSTUME" stand.

October 23rd: Today's ASCII art is that of a "Plush candy tote bag, reg. $17, on sale 9.99" and a man with scales in each hand. The latter is titled "Halloween Justice".

October 24th: "THE MOMMY & THE MUMMY" debuts. "In who's (sic) direction will the scales of Halloween Justice tilt in this thriller?" reads the caption; no answer is forthcoming.

October 25th: ASCII art is posted of a stylized heart, a tornado, a "weirdo" and a "weird girl", and a "Ro-Bo-Man".

October 28th: Artist #2 posts ASCII art of a bag of potato chips. "For Lot of Fun Times!".

October 29th: Today's offering is a blue box containing text that says "OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD. HE REIGNS FROM HEAVEN ABOVE WITH WISDOM, POWER & LOVE. OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!" It is agreed that God is awesome.

October 30th: There is general amazement at the bag-of-potato-chips picture, because the artist had never actually seen that particular brand of chips but was still able to create an ASCII version of it. Artist #1 says that this shows that Artist #2 is "such a courageous person". The entire ASCII Potato Chip Bag incident is described as "good times!!".

October 31st: Artist #1 fondly recalls a time when she posted a pair of ASCII bluebirds accompanied by a poem and a MIDI file of a Claude Ciari song. It is claimed that the ASCII artists at the time "sure made some big boners". ASCII art of big boners is not forthcoming.
