Creative Experience
My first published
article was a music review in 1986 for the legendary Chemical
Imbalance punk ‘zine, and my first
paid work was a year later,
writing about music for The Rocket in Seattle. Since that time,
I have written about music,
film and culture for a number of ‘zines
(including Chum, Oblivion and The Big Combo) and have
done paid freelance music, film and culture writing for many other
publications (ranging from the New Times, UR (where I have
served as
a staff writer for over a year), and The Chicago Reader to
the Village Voice, Time Out
and the Chicago Tribune’s
MetroMix section). My work has also
appeared in print- and web-based publications as diverse as White
Sox
Interactive, Pindeldyboz, Über, Opium Magazine, The Planet
and McSweeney’s. I have also written for and appeared
on local
radio shows such as Under Surveillance (on which I have been a
guest five times, discussing politics and pop culture) and The
Formula (an avant-garde music program) on Chicago’s independent
station, WLUW. I am an
associate editor of The High Hat, a
web-based culture & entertainment magazine, slated to go to print
in 2005, and
have done copy and content editing of at least a quarter
of their content since the second issue as well as serving as
the
editor-in-chief of the current issue.
References,
salary data and contact information for work experience can

Related
Experience and Skills
I
have
extensive experience in marketing support, and have worked with agents,
publicists and design departments in aid of any number of interviews
and articles. I have designed a number of presentations, graphics
packages, sales tools, small business publications, ‘zines, websites
and newsletters. I’m extremely au courant with all aspects of
contemporary pop and hip-hop
music and modern film, both mainstream and
independent.
I am
extremely well-spoken, articulate and an excellent communicator of
ideas and information, both orally and in writing. I have never had
issues with delegating and negotiating workloads,
and have work
experience with coordinating tasks on large projects.
I am
thoroughly computer-literate on both Macintosh and PC operating systems
and have an in-depth knowledge of all common office applications (word
processing, spreadsheets,
databases, graphics and web page design,
e-mail and internet, etc.). I have also provided minor technical
support for the computer systems at several of my employers' offices,
and have
designed and supported at least five different web sites both
personal and professional.
